Diverse and Inclusive Lineup of Artists Celebrated
Four soulful events took place in the Hamptons on May 27th 2023, which drew artists, art curators, collectors, business owners, executives, entrepreneurs, and the cultural elite of the Hamptons for a fun-filled weekend. Yaya Reyes created ART & SOUL: Hamptons to celebrate influential and emerging BIPOC artists. Art curators, collectors, and supporters are connected to artists through the series of events.
The Southampton African American Museum (SAAM), founded by Brenda Simmons, kicked off the unofficial weekend of summer with the Art Walk. Demarcus McGaughey, who has a residency through July 22, 2023, is currently at SAAM. In the second stop of the art walk, we went to the Southampton Arts Center (SAC), where we saw A MOMENT IN TIME: ICONIC IMAGES BY HARRY BENSON. The third and final stop on the art walk was Hidden Gem NY, a home decor and lifestyle boutique owned by sisters Tanya Willock and Temidra Willock-Morsch.
VIP BRUNCH: ART & SOUL: Hamptons hosted a SOLD-OUT brunch at 75 MAIN on their outdoor patio. Demarcus McGaughy presented his limited edition print of ‘Cool Cat’, a mix media collage print of his uncle John Crenshaw (the brother of his grandmother). Some of the Hamptons’ and NYC’s socially connected Black and Brown women were in attendance. During his residency at Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio on the Shinnecock Reservation, Demarcus created the original painting.
Raindrop’s Café, owned and operated by Shinnecock Indians, hosted the Art Exhibition. Original artwork was featured by Alvin Clayton-Fernandes, Errin Whitaker, Tohanash Tarrant, and Kim Wright. A space filled with a rich history of the Shinnecock Tribe’s contribution to the Hamptons allowed guests to meet all of the artists.
The day ended with a sipping experience held at Raindrop’s Café, with an organic wine bar sponsored by Ettore Wine (produced in California), flavored sparkling water sponsored by SOVANY, and Native American bites catered by Poppin Patties. We had a 360 camera, as well as a LED light photo booth, sponsored by VBA the Media Group.
Guests also got tons of swag bags. The sponsors of the Luxury Gift Bag include: Borghese, StriVection, EVE LOM, CAUDALIE, BIONOVA, Imperial DAX Company, Andrew Fitzsimons, NatureLab Tokyo, Daily Dose, SELECT by Curaleaf, Wendy Williams Med Spa & IV Drip Bar, and SOVANY.
