Expanding the Propel Your City Project, the initiative offers free classes and $100,000 in fitness memberships to enhance community access to fitness in Newark, Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles.
Propel Fitness Water and Michael B. Jordan Launch Community Fitness Hubs to Bring Exercisers Together
As Propel Fitness Water enters a decade of growth and momentum, the brand continues to bring communities together through movement, partnering with Michael B. Jordan. Today, Propel announces the expansion of the Propel Your City Project, their joint initiative to enhance access to fitness in local communities. In its second year, the project introduces multi-city fitness hubs—physical spaces where local fitness and wellness leaders will host free classes—starting in Jordan’s hometown of Newark, NJ.
“My fitness journey started on the basketball courts in Newark, and the progress I’ve made since then comes from a combination of learning from the best and moving alongside my team,” said Michael B. Jordan. “With the Propel Your City Project, we’re helping more people find that winning mix in their community to drive them forward.”
A recent survey by Propel found that 77% of exercisers say group workout classes motivate them to exercise, and 74% see better results when working out with others. However, 65% typically work out alone, citing cost and access as barriers. To address this, Propel is launching free pop-up fitness hubs in Newark, Atlanta, Houston, and Los Angeles this summer. For nearly a month in each city, exercisers can choose from a rotating schedule of classes and formats from local fitness organizations committed to inclusivity. Every hub will be stocked with free Propel products—including flavored electrolyte water, powders, and tablets—backed by Gatorade Science to hydrate attendees.
Beyond the hubs, Propel encourages exercisers across the country to move together by giving away $100,000 in support of their fitness journeys—doubling last year’s impact. Exercisers can tag a friend who motivates them on @PropelWater for a chance to win $500 each toward fitness memberships of their choice.
In its first year, the Propel Your City Project provided access to fitness across the country, offering over 160 free classes from fitness and wellness organizations fostering community inclusivity. This year, the project includes seven returning partners and nine new organizations, offering opportunities for programming in otherwise inaccessible spaces.
Newark, NJ, is the newest addition to the Propel Your City Project and will be the first fitness hub to launch this summer. Located in Newark’s Mount Pleasant-Lower Broadway neighborhood starting June 8th, the space will feature free classes from local organizations including Brick City Run Club, Brick City Strength, and I’m So Yoga. Propel is also expanding support to Brick City Rowing, helping to build a dock and establish a rowing program within Newark for the first time since 1901.
Atlanta, GA, will host its hub starting June 22nd, featuring organizations such as Atlanta Run Club, PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT, BLK Hiking Club, and Bonafide Riders Cycle Club. Houston, TX, starts on July 13th with classes from BLK Beetles, Latinas Run Houston, FitMix Communities, and ZFT Run Club. Los Angeles, CA, begins August 3rd, with WalkGood LA, Babes of Wellness, BlacklistLA, and Kong Fit Club offering classes.
“We saw positive impact for the organizations and local communities that were part of Propel Your City Project last year,” said Emily Boido, Senior Director of Marketing, Enhanced Water Brands, Gatorade. “Research shows exercisers thrive when motivated by a like-minded community, and our fitness hubs are designed to create more access to that.”
