International Superstar’s Philanthropic Symphony Continues as the Maestro Donates Beloved Instrument to Support Noto Peninsula Earthquake Victims
Internationally acclaimed musician and philanthropist YOSHIKI recently auctioned his beloved crystal piano to raise funds for victims of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in Japan. The four-day auction, which concluded on January 16, saw a winning bid of 40 million yen (over $270,000 USD).
The announcement of the auction took place on January 9 during YOSHIKI’s ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre, where he became the first Japanese star to receive the rare honor of having his cement handprints and footprints unveiled at the iconic Hollywood landmark, a tradition that began almost a century ago.
YOSHIKI’s Kawai CR-40N piano, a cherished instrument used for recording in his Los Angeles studio and during tours, found a new home through the auction. During the TCL Chinese Theatre ceremony, YOSHIKI bid farewell to his beloved piano with a heartfelt performance, stating, “I’m a little sad to say goodbye to my crystal piano, which is like family to me, but I think some people will be saved by this. Please cherish it.”

The inspiration behind the auction came from the recent Noto Peninsula Earthquake in Japan, which deeply moved YOSHIKI. Addressing the audience during the ceremony, he expressed his condolences and a desire to support those affected by the disaster: “I want to spread awareness and expand the circle of support. I sincerely hope that everyone in the disaster-stricken areas can return to their normal lives as soon as possible.”
In addition to the piano auction, YOSHIKI had earlier donated 10 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross through his non-profit organization, Yoshiki Foundation America. The total amount donated, including the auction proceeds, sums up to an impressive 50 million yen (over $340,000 USD). These funds will directly aid the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake, where over 1900 people are still stranded without power, food, or medicine.

YOSHIKI’s philanthropic journey extends beyond this recent contribution. Over the years, he has consistently supported various humanitarian causes globally. From disaster relief for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas to combatting wildfires in the Amazon rainforest, YOSHIKI has donated substantial amounts to aid those in need.
YOSHIKI’s commitment to humanitarian causes has earned him recognition and accolades, including being chosen by Forbes as one of “Asia’s Top 30 Heroes of Philanthropy” in 2019. In 2021, he received a Medal of Honor from the Japanese Government for his support of the National Center for Global Health and Medicine and ongoing charitable works.
As the world continues to witness YOSHIKI’s unwavering dedication to philanthropy, his actions serve as an inspiration, demonstrating the positive impact that a single individual can have on the lives of many.
