Iconic Nickelodeon character dives into the world of philately, bringing nostalgia, humor, and ocean vibes to your mail.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) unveiled a vibrant new stamp series honoring Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants, during an exciting event in Times Square. Designed by USPS art director Greg Breeding using artwork provided by Nickelodeon, the stamps celebrate the iconic cartoon that has been delighting audiences of all ages since its debut on July 17, 1999.
Breeding, who signed autographs for fans during the unveiling, showcased the whimsical stamp pane, which features 16 stamps in four playful designs. Two blue stamps spotlight SpongeBob and his quirky friends from Bikini Bottom—Sandy Cheeks, Patrick Star, Plankton, Mr. Krabs, Gary the Snail, and Squidward Tentacles—while another captures SpongeBob and Patrick frolicking under the sea. Two yellow designs feature SpongeBob’s signature goofy grin in bold close-ups. The selvage is decorated with SpongeBob SquarePants lettering in the show’s signature style against a backdrop of tropical “Tiki” flowers.
“These stamps reflect the humor, energy, and nostalgia of one of the most popular cartoons in television history,” said Breeding. “We’re thrilled to share this slice of pop culture with the public.”
Forever stamps, including this SpongeBob SquarePants collection, will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce rate. They are now available nationwide at Post Office locations, online at usps.com/shopstamps, and through USA Philatelic.
Created by marine biologist-turned-animator Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants became a global phenomenon, inspiring movies, merchandise, and generations of fans. With a fourth theatrical film, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, set to release later this year, the franchise continues to thrive.
USPS encourages fans to join the conversation on social media using #SpongeBobSquarePantsStamps.
