Mental health remains a pressing concern for post-9/11 veterans. According to Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP), more than six in ten warriors live with conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression. But this isn’t just a military issue—it’s a human one. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that men are less likely than women to seek treatment, underscoring the stigma still surrounding mental wellness.
In a powerful conversation, Atlanta Falcons defensive end Morgan Fox joins his father, Joe Fox, an Army veteran and Project Odyssey regional director at WWP, to share why vulnerability is not weakness—it’s courage. Together, they stress the importance of connection and support, both on and off the field.
Building on their participation in a WWP mental health event, the duo highlights how the NFL’s Salute to Service initiative helps provide no-cost programs for veterans and their families. These programs focus on resilience, community, and recovery—essential tools for warriors navigating the invisible wounds of war.
“Speaking up is strength,” says Morgan. “Asking for help is brave, and healing is always possible.” His father Joe echoes this sentiment, encouraging veterans and civilians alike to prioritize mental health and seek the resources available to them.
For veterans, families, and caregivers needing assistance, WWP’s Resource Center offers support and guidance. Immediate help is also available via the Crisis Line by calling 988.
As football season kicks off, Morgan and Joe Fox remind us that mental health is a team effort—and none of us have to fight alone.
