Launching November 7, the multiplatform project offers heartwarming stories, music, and educational resources to help children ages 2–6 understand caregiving as an act of love.

Fred Rogers Productions — the award-winning team behind Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Alma’s Way, and Donkey Hodie — is once again bringing kindness and empathy to screens everywhere. The company announced the launch of Many Ways to Show You Care, a new multiplatform content initiative debuting November 7 across PBS KIDS platforms, including pbskids.org, the PBS KIDS Video app, and the PBS KIDS for Parents YouTube channel.

This heart-centered project celebrates caregiving through short-form documentaries, a new Fred Rogers–inspired music video, educator lesson plans, and family activities. Designed for children ages 2–6, Many Ways to Show You Care helps kids recognize that showing love through care is a natural and meaningful part of family life.

The initiative serves as a companion to Caregiving, the PBS primetime documentary produced by Lea Pictures and WETA, which aired earlier this year and explored the challenges and triumphs of caregiving in America.

Real Families, Real Stories

The Many Ways to Show You Care short documentaries spotlight three Pittsburgh-area children and their families:

  • Ramiro, a lively six-year-old who assists his great-grandmother with daily tasks.
  • Anabella, a ten-year-old big sister who helps care for her two younger brothers, including one with multiple disabilities.
  • Josh, an eleven-year-old who supports his father following a traumatic brain injury.

Captured by Pittsburgh-based Vinegar Hill, each story is introduced by beloved PBS KIDS characters — Daniel Tiger, Donkey Hodie, and Alma Rivera — connecting today’s kids with the timeless messages of empathy, understanding, and community that Fred Rogers championed.

A Fresh Take on a Classic Song

A new music video reimagines the iconic Fred Rogers song, “There Are Many Ways to Say I Love You.” Featuring Daniel Tiger, Donkey Hodie, Alma Rivera, and archival footage of Mister Rogers himself, the video celebrates the many forms love and care can take — from helping around the house to offering a comforting hug.

Learning Through Love

The initiative extends beyond screens with an array of educational and family-friendly resources.
Educators will find new lesson plans and curated video clips from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Alma’s Way, Donkey Hodie, and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood available through PBS LearningMedia. Meanwhile, parents and caregivers can access activities that nurture empathy, compassion, and self-care through the PBS KIDS for Parents website.

Ellen Doherty, Chief Creative Officer at Fred Rogers Productions, shared,

Many Ways to Show You Care is directly inspired by ‘There Are Many Ways to Say I Love You.’ It offers children an opportunity to see themselves — and to learn how caregiving can be a joyful part of family life. We’re proud to continue Fred’s legacy of kindness and understanding.”

Weston Middleton of Lea Pictures added,

“Fred Rogers Productions’ thoughtful approach shines a light on the triumphs and challenges of everyday caregivers. This collaboration helps families at every age and stage see that caring for one another is something to be celebrated.”

Many Ways to Show You Care is produced by Fred Rogers Productions in association with Lea Pictures and WETA Washington, D.C., in conjunction with the Well Beings Caregiving project. It is supported by the Richard King Mellon Foundation, The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, Next50, the McFeely-Rogers Foundation, and the Susan Crown Exchange.
