New streaming platform celebrates Latino culture with Spanish-language programming, original holiday romances, and new opportunities for Latino filmmakers.
There is something special about gathering around the television with family, especially when the stories unfolding on the screen reflect the traditions, humor, faith and cultural connections that make our families who they are.
For Latino households, those moments often come with familiar characters, a little romance, plenty of family opinions and, of course, the occasional abuela who knows everyone’s business before anyone else does.
Now, Great American Media is bringing that spirit to streaming with the launch of Pure Flix Familia, a new entertainment destination dedicated to culturally relevant, family-friendly programming.
Launched October 15, 2026, as Hispanic Heritage Month concluded and the holiday entertainment season began, Pure Flix Familia arrives with a mission to offer programming that celebrates Latino identities while emphasizing faith, family and shared values.
A Streaming Home Where Latino Culture Takes Center Stage
Pure Flix Familia is not simply another Spanish-language streaming service. Its creators envision a destination that recognizes the diversity of Latino audiences, including those who speak Spanish, English or a combination of both.
The service initially features Spanish-language entertainment, with plans to expand into bilingual and English-language programming.
This approach recognizes a reality familiar to many Latino families across the United States: one generation may prefer watching entertainment in Spanish, another may primarily speak English, and everyone still shares a connection to their cultural heritage.
From romantic comedies and family dramas to faith-inspired programming and holiday entertainment, Pure Flix Familia aims to showcase stories rooted in experiences that resonate across generations.
The launch also strengthens Great American Media’s existing portfolio, which includes Great American Family, Great American Pure Flix and Great American Faith & Living.
Carlos Ponce and Manny Ruiz Help Shape the Vision
An important part of this new streaming venture is the collaboration with Minivela, the media and entertainment company co-founded by actor and producer Carlos Ponce and media entrepreneur Manny Ruiz.
Both bring extensive experience in Latino entertainment, content development and audience engagement.
Minivela will help develop original programming and establish relationships with Latino filmmakers, producers and creative talent. The partnership also embraces mobile-first storytelling, reflecting how viewers increasingly discover and consume entertainment on their phones.
For Ponce, the partnership addresses an important need: giving families access to entertainment that reflects their culture without compromising the values they want represented in their homes.
The collaboration offers an opportunity to bring Latino perspectives into the creative process rather than simply adapting existing mainstream programming for Spanish-speaking viewers.
That distinction matters. Authentic representation should extend beyond the language heard on screen to the customs, relationships and lived experiences behind the stories.
A Little Christmas Romance, Latino Style
DEBUT ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING
Alquilé Un Novio Para Navidad
Christmas romantic comedy | Spanish-language microdrama
A woman hires the perfect boyfriend to survive her family’s Christmas Eve gathering. The trouble begins when their pretend relationship starts feeling unexpectedly real.
One of Pure Flix Familia’s first original productions, Alquilé Un Novio Para Navidad (I Rented a Boyfriend for Christmas), brings a familiar romantic comedy premise into the world of Latino holiday celebrations.
Anyone who has attended a lively Nochebuena gathering knows that family members sometimes have a talent for turning a simple dinner into a full-scale investigation of someone’s romantic life.
The story follows a woman who decides to avoid those uncomfortable questions by bringing along a rented boyfriend. Naturally, the arrangement becomes complicated when genuine feelings begin to develop.
Produced in association with Minivela, the microdrama blends holiday romance, humor and family expectations into a short-form viewing experience.
It is also an example of how Pure Flix Familia intends to combine familiar entertainment genres with cultural details that make the stories distinctively Latino.
Opening Doors for Latino Filmmakers
Beyond delivering entertainment to viewers, Pure Flix Familia is positioning itself as a potential platform for Latino filmmakers seeking greater exposure.
In collaboration with Chicano Hollywood and a coalition of Latino film festival leaders, the company has announced plans for a national call for Latino-produced short and feature-length films.
The initiative will focus on projects that explore family, faith and related themes, with selected submissions considered for licensing or acquisition.
For independent filmmakers, this could provide an additional route for getting their work in front of audiences.
It is an encouraging development in an industry where talented Latino storytellers have often faced challenges securing distribution and finding platforms willing to invest in culturally specific productions.
Submission guidelines and deadlines have not yet been announced.
Why Latino Audiences Matter to the Streaming Industry
The business opportunity behind Pure Flix Familia is substantial.
According to Nielsen figures cited by Great American Media, Hispanic consumers in the United States represent more than $4.1 trillion in purchasing power. Streaming accounts for approximately 55.8% of Hispanic television viewing time, compared with 46% among the overall U.S. population.
Those numbers illustrate both the growing economic influence of Latino consumers and their strong connection to streaming entertainment.

But audience size alone is not enough.
Latino viewers represent a wide range of national backgrounds, languages, histories and cultural traditions. Their entertainment preferences cannot be reduced to a single formula.
Pure Flix Familia’s long-term success will depend on how effectively it balances its faith-and-family identity with the richness and diversity of Latino storytelling.
Beyond the United States: A Global Vision
Although Pure Flix Familia begins with the U.S. market, Great American Media has its sights set on international expansion.
The company’s longer-term strategy includes reaching audiences throughout Latin America and Spain, potentially establishing a broader entertainment brand centered on faith, culture and family.
That ambition also presents a creative challenge. Latino identity encompasses numerous cultures, traditions and lived experiences, and meaningful representation requires more than simply translating dialogue or including recognizable cultural references.
The real opportunity lies in developing characters and stories that feel authentic to the audiences they are meant to represent.
A New Chapter for Family Entertainment
As streaming platforms compete for attention, Pure Flix Familia is entering the marketplace with a clear identity and a potentially underserved audience.
Its emphasis on culturally connected family entertainment, combined with its investment in Latino creators, gives the platform an interesting foundation.
What ultimately matters is whether the programming delivers on that promise.
As someone who appreciates the humor, heart and complicated beauty of Latino family life, I see an opportunity here for stories that do more than entertain. They can celebrate the traditions that connect generations while introducing those experiences to new audiences.
And if Alquilé Un Novio Para Navidad teaches us anything, it is that even the best holiday plans can unravel once the family starts asking questions.
Because whether it’s Christmas, Nochebuena or an ordinary Sunday dinner, Latino families rarely need a script to create memorable entertainment.
Additional information about Pure Flix Familia’s programming, subscription options and device availability is expected from Great American Media.
